As India battles the second wave of Covid-19, citizens are playing an important role in tackling this ever lasting pandemic.
Karnataka issued fresh directives to set up Ward Decentralised Triage and Emergency Response or DETER Committees for all Covid management in all 198 wards of Bengaluru.
Based on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s successful model, the Ward Decentralised Committee’s focus would be to become the first point of contact with the government for Covid patients or their attendees in Bengaluru. The Committee will comprise of government officers, volunteer RWA’s and civil society organisations.
The triage centre will set up a ward level war room with a help line number and work closely with RWA’s in training volunteers to distinguish the people with severe illness and be able to distinguish who needs an ICU, hospitalization or be isolated at home. A competent and trained doctor would guide the committee to reduce such delays.
Covid-19 testing coverage will also be increased and vaccination drives will be conducted in different wards when the stocks of vaccines are replenished.
