England wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes was on Wednesday ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand after a freak dressing-room accident.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the 28-year-old sustained the injury after slipping in his socks while walking in the dressing room following Surrey's County Championship match against Middlesex at the Oval. He is out with a torn hamstring.
Foakes may be out for 3 months, which has also put his participation in the Test series vs India and the Ashes tour in doubt. Uncapped Sam Billings has been named as his replacement, with the selectors also giving opener Haseeb Hameed his maiden England call-up.
