Barely years after high octane fall-out with Team India skipper Virat Kohli which led to Anil Kumble losing his job as the Head Coach, the former India captain is once again in contention for the top job. It is learnt that BCCI under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly is in favour of Kumble taking over after Ravi Shastri's term gets over later this year.

Shastri's current term gets over after the World T20 and along with Kumble, VVS Laxman's name too is doing the rounds. Kumble's previous stint with Team India was in 2016-17 season when he was appointed as the coach by the Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly.

A source in BCCI confirmed the developments to PTI and added that Laxman too is in the running as the board can once again appoint an Indian coach on the basis of merit.
