Playing their 1st competitive cricket match after more than 5 months, Australia buckled under pressure as England won the 1st T20 by just 2 runs. Batting first, England posted 162/7 courtesy a brisk 66 by Dawid Malan. Jos Buttler too scored a quickfire 29 ball 44 which helped the hosts get off to a good start in Southampton. In reply, with an opening partnership of 98 between Aaron Finch and David Warner, Australia were in cruise control. England in a short burst picked up 5 wickets for just 35 runs which derailed the Aussie run chase as they fell short by just 2 runs. Adil Rashid & Jofra Archer picked up 2 wickets each as England took a 1-0 lead in the series.
