A Special NIA court on Thursday discharged Assam activist and Akhil Gogoi in a UAPA case lodged against him in relation with anti-CAA protests.

The NIA had filed two cases against Gogoi under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act after violent protests in December 2019. He has now been discharged in both the cases.

Gogoi, a prominent farmer activist, has been under arrest since December 2019 for his alleged role in the protests.

He is currently admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital as he has been unwell for a few months.
