Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that people who lost their loved ones to Covid-19 should not be called liars. He was reacting to the report by a Supreme Court-appointed Oxygen Audit Committee which said Delhi exaggerated its oxygen requirement by four times during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi, saying his crime was that he fought for the breath of 2 crore people in the capital. He targeted the BJP saying, when they were doing election rallies, he was awake all night arranging for Oxygen.
The Supreme Court's oxygen audit team in its report said, the Delhi government exaggerated the oxygen requirement for the city by more than four times during the April 25-May 10 period, at the peak of the second Covid wave, adding that the supply of excess oxygen to Delhi could have triggered a crisis in its supply to 12 states with the high caseload. The report also highlighted the fact that four Delhi hospitals with fewer beds claimed high consumption of oxygen.
The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a scathing attack on Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government after oxygen audit report. In a press conference, BJP leader Sambit Patra said it is unbelievable to see that Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi government politicised oxygen supply when Covid-19 was at its peak.
BJP MP Gautam Gambhir said, if Kejriwal had any shame left, he should hold a press meet to apologise to the nation for inflating oxygen need by 4 times.
