Heavy rains lashed Arunachal Pradesh's capital, Itanagar in the last few days, leaving a trail of unprecedented devastation and destruction.

A large portion of the capital highway, National Highway-415 has been washed away at D-Sector in Itanagar near IG Park entry gate when the retaining wall caved in. The retaining wall crushed down into a nullah below.

The construction of the National Highway, connecting Naharlagun and Itanagar, was completed only recently. Local authorities have sought a probe into the quality of materials used in construction.
