After several states raising alarm over the spread of the black fungus infection or mucormycosis, medical experts have now flagged a 'white fungus infection' that could be just as life-threatening, if not more.

The white fungus has been detected in at least four patients in Bihar's Patna as per media reports.

The symptoms of white fungus are reportedly very similar to Covid-19 in the lungs but such patients test negative for the virus. CT scans and X-rays are useful in diagnosing the infection, said Dr SN Singh, the head of microbiology, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in a Zee News report.

The infection seems to be caused by unsanitary use of oxygen cylinders and overuse of steroids.

As of now, people with weakened immunity, a common trait among Covid-19 patients or those who have recovered from it, are allegedly the most susceptible to this infection.
