Trouble seems to be never-ending for the Tokyo Olympic organisers as an official partner of the 2020 Tokyo Games, Japan's Asahi Shimbun, has called for the cancellation of the event.

The Asahi, one of Japan's most prestigious newspapers, said that they are far from a situation in which everybody can be confident that they are safe and secure. It added that poll after poll has shown that the majority of the public is opposed to holding the Games this summer and are concerned about the tens of thousands of athletes and officials descending on a country that has mostly remained closed to foreigners since last year.

Much of Japan, including host city Tokyo, remains under a third state of emergency that is widely expected to be extended beyond this month.
