Hours after TMC MP Nusrat Jahan released a statement on her separation with husband Nikhil Jain saying her marriage was not valid in India, BJP leader Amit Malviya on Thursday questioned if she lied about her marital status on the floor of the Parliament.
Malviya pointed out in a tweet that she is an elected representative and said on record in the Parliament that she is married to Nikhil Jain.
Nusrat Jahan had tied the knot with Nikhil Jain at a destination wedding ceremony in Turkey in 2019. She claimed in her statement that since it was an interfaith marriage, it required validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen.
