Amid unrest, Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina steps in

Amid the ongoing communal clashes between majority and minority groups in Bangladesh over a viral social media post, PM Sheikh Hasina has stepped in.

Hasina on Tuesday directed country's home minister to initiate immediate action against those who incited violence.

She also appealed to people to not trust anything on social media without fact-checking.

Protests and clashes intensified after an alleged blasphemous post against the majority community went viral during durga puja. This caused furore among after which the majority community took to streets.

Several reports also cited acts of violence and vandalism with at least six from the minority community being killed in separate attacks by mobs.
