Activewear to prevent Covid? Well, that was a lawsuit just waiting to happen.
Lorna Jane, an athleisure clothing chain based out of the land down under, Australia, was fined $5 million for falsely claiming that its garment could prevent Covid-19, during the peak of the pandemic. The company which manufactures and retails women’s activewear, claimed that its anti-virus activewear had been sprayed with a substance called “LJ Shield,” which protected people against pathogens.
This came at a time when there was a huge amount of uncertainty surrounding the deadly virus outbreak. Leveraging that, the company’s adverts on the brand’s website, stores and Instagram used the tag “Cure for the Spread of Covid-19? Lorna Jane Thinks So.”
Lorna Jane has 108 stores in Australia as well as a substantial number of international stores, including some in the USA and New Zealand.
