85 prisoners contract AIDS in Assam jail

A total of 85 inmates at Nagaon’s Central Jail and Special Jail tested HIV positive in September.

Nagaon BP Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr LC Nath said that all inmates are drug induced HIV positive.

According to the Nagaon district health department, most prisoners with the immunodeficiency syndrome are drug addicts and shared a common syringe for injecting contraband drugs.
