6.1 magnitude quake near Assam's Dhekiajuli, tremors felt in Guwahati

An earthquake of magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit Sonitpur in Assam on Wednesday at 7:51 am. The National Center for Seismology confirmed, that the quake hit at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre of the earthquake was 36 km north-west of Tezpur at Dhekiajuli. Tremors were also felt in Assam’s capital city, Guwahati, in the morning hours on Wednesday. No injury or casualty was reported. Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, he was praying for the well-being of all and urged everyone to stay alert.
