India’s coronavirus death toll crossed the 3 lakh mark on Monday with 4,454 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, according to health ministry data on Monday morning.
This makes India only the third country after the United States and Brazil to record more than 300,000 fatalities due to the viral disease.
The new Covid cases, however, continued to show a downward trend with 2.22 lakh new infections in the same period. The active caseload now stands at less than 30 lakh. Daily recoveries continue to outnumber daily infections in India.
The country tested close 20 lakh samples for Covid-19 for sixth consecutive day.
