21 people dead due to heavy rains and landslides in Kerala

21 people have been killed in Kerala due to heavy rains that triggered landslides in the districts of Idukki and Kottayam. According to the figures released by the state govt, 13 people have died in Kottayam and 8 in Idukki. 

At least 13 people have been reported missing, including five children.

NDRF teams are conducting a rescue operation in Idukki district's Kokkayar where a landslide occurred on Saturday. 

Rescue operations are also underway in Koottickal area of Kottayam district where heavy rains have caused massive damage, destruction and landslides. 

On the state government's request, the Army, Navy and Air Force have stepped in to help the civil administration handle the situation along with the NDRF.
