2-day bank strike from today involving employees of state-run banks including India's largest bank SBI is likely to hit banking services across the country.
Bank unions under the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) umbrella which has support of nearly 10 lakh PSU bank employees have called a strike on December 16 and 17 against the proposed public sector bank privatisation.

State Bank of India who had appealed to the unions to drop the strike plea warned customers that services may be impacted. SBI in an exchange filing said "We advise that while the Bank has made necessary arrangements to ensure normal functioning in its branches and offices on the days of strike, it is likely that work in our Bank may be impacted by the strike."
‘Bank Bachao, Desh Bachao’ has been the slogan for the unions marking their protest at Jantar Mantar since December 1 against the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 which is scheduled yo be introduced in the Winter Session of the Parliament. The bill aims to privatise public sector banks.
