Israeli hostages shot by IDF made 'SOS' sign with leftover food

Three Israeli hostages were tragically killed by soldiers in Gaza on December 15. The victims had used leftover food to craft signs pleading for help. The Israel Defense Forces revealed that the men had been staying in a building near the incident for some time.

The IDF stated that it wasn't clear whether the hostages had been abandoned by their captors or had managed to escape. The Israeli army searched the building where messages reading "SOS" and "Help, 3 hostages" were discovered on fabric. The hostages had reportedly been in the building for an extended period.

Currently, around 120 hostages are still believed to be held by Hamas and allied Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip. Israel faces mounting pressure to secure their release. The IDF acknowledged that the killing of the three hostages, who were holding a white flag, violated the "rules of engagement."

They were initially captured and taken to Gaza during the Hamas attacks on October 7, which claimed approximately 1,200 lives in southern Israel.
In response, Israel launched a large-scale retaliatory operation aimed at dismantling Hamas.

Since then, over 18,000 people have lost their lives in Gaza, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes.
