India and Russia Set to Ink Landmark Mobility Pact

India and Russia plan to sign a mobility agreement to facilitate legal migration and protect workers' rights, anticipating 70,000 Indian professionals to work in Russia, starting December.

India and Russia Set to Ink Landmark Mobility Pact

Moscow, Nov 10 (PTI) India and Russia are on the brink of signing a landmark bilateral mobility agreement during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi in early December. This crucial accord aims to create a framework for legal migration, ensuring the protection of workers' rights while boosting the presence of skilled Indian workers in Russia—an economy currently facing a significant shortage of qualified labor.

Reports indicate that the agreement will legally safeguard current Indian workers and open new avenues for thousands of professionals across sectors like construction, textiles, engineering, and electronics. By year's end, it's anticipated that over 70,000 Indian nationals will be officially employed across Russia under quotas overseen by the Russian Ministry of Labour.

The initiative has received a warm welcome from the Moscow-based Indian Business Alliance (IBA), which considers the upcoming India-Russia Mobility Agreement a strategic milestone in strengthening bilateral relations. “India boasts one of the world’s most dynamic and skilled workforces, and Russia is amidst significant industrial transformation. This agreement is a win-win for both nations—supplying skilled manpower for Russia's growing economy and providing secure employment opportunities for Indian professionals,” remarked IBA President Sammy Manoj Kotwani.

To address past issues of immigration law violations, where Indian nationals were deceived by fraudulent recruiters, the IBA has pledged to collaborate with both governments and partners to organize orientation and language programs for incoming Indian workers. The alliance aims to promote fair recruitment channels and uphold ethical employment standards.

In its commitment to the integration and welfare of Indian citizens working in Russia, the IBA will also work closely with the Indian Embassy in Moscow and regional Russian authorities.
