Ad-supported Netflix subscription is allegedly in the works

Netflix is figuring out new ways to retain its subscribers.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Netflix wants to launch a cheaper version of its service that is supported by ads.

For this, the company is already in talks with various Hollywood studios like Warner Bros, Sony Pictures and Universal Studios to change its licensing deals.

Netflix is said to be still in the early stages of figuring out how to launch an affordable ad-supported option.

This step is very likely a result of Netflix losing subscribers for the first time in 10 years in the first quarter of 2022. The streaming giant has also predicted a further 2 million subscriber drop in the second quarter of 2022.
