Over 41% of the girls in West Bengal are married before the age of 18. This is impacting women’s health immensely. Maternal mortality has shot up from 94 in 2015 to 98 in 2018 and it was found to be higher among women who were married under 18. The state introduced its flagship scheme Kanyashree Prakalpa to fight against it but it has been doing little on the ground.
