Kaavan, dubbed as the "world's loneliest elephant", after spending most of his life in a Pakistani zoo, was readied on Sunday for his flight to Cambodia.
He left in a Russian cargo plane. It took several hours to shift Kaavan into the graint crate that took him in the flight.
The animal has languished in the zoo for 35 years, mostly in chains, and lost his partner in 2012 after which he was heartbroken.
Kaavan will now live on a 25,000 acre sanctuary in Cambodia.
