World's first 'marine cemetery' opens in Kerala

Dec 17, 2019 16:44 IST

Honouring marine species that have lost their lives to plastic pollution, few environmental groups have come together to build the world's first marine cemetery. Located at the Beypore Beach in Kozhikode in Kerala, the cemetery has been made of over 2000 plastic bottles, featuring 9 tombs. 8 critically endangered marine species including seahorse, hammerhead shark, parrotfish and leatherback turtle have been honoured at the cemetery. The project was led by Jellyfish Watersports.
