In a historic announcement, the ICC confirmed on Wednesday that Women’s cricket will be a part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games for the first time. Cricket's governing body and the Commonwealth Games Federation also announced the qualification process of the 8 teams. While top 6 ranked T20 teams as of 1 April 2021 along with hosts England automatically qualify for the event, the remaining spot will be earned by the winner of a Qualifier. It will only be the 2nd time that cricket will feature in the Commonwealth Games after a men’s competition was part of the multi-sport event in Kuala Lumpur in 1998. Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham.
