With polls postponed, Maha Guv asked to appoint Uddhav as MLC

Apr 09, 2020 18:35 IST

The Maharashtra government has passed a resolution asking Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to appoint Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray as an MLC, at a time when elections to the council have been postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Uddhav Thackeray is currently not a member of the state assembly and needs to become one within six months of taking office, which he did in November. If that doesn't happen, he may have to resign. Maharashtra is governed by a coalition of three parties that came to power after a protracted and dramatic political battle late last year.
