Amnesty International India on Tuesday announced that it has stopped all its works after its bank accounts were frozen by the govt. Alleging govt withc-hunt, Amnesty India said that it has been forced to let go off staff and stop all work related to human rights and reserch. Insisting that Amnesty stands in "full compliance" with all Indian and international laws, it stated that more than four million Indians have supported Amnesty International India’s work in the last eight years and around 100,000 Indians have made financial contributions. It added that these contributions have no relation with the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. The government, however, says the global rights watchdog has been receiving foreign funds illegally and it never registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
