England's summer of ODI cricket began with a bang as the 3 Lions comfortably beat Ireland by 6 wickets in Southampton and took a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. England's decision to bowl first proved right as David Willey ran through Ireland's top order and claimed his maiden 5-wicket haul. The visitors who at one stage were reduced to 79/7, fought back and on back of an unbeaten 59 by Curtis Campher, reached 172. 3 Lions' top order too looked rusty as England lost 4 wickets with 78 runs on the board. But Sam Billings rescued the hosts with his highest ODI score of 67 not out. Captain Morgan too remained unbeaten on 36 as England crossed the line without anymore hiccup. The 2nd ODI will be played at the same ground on Saturday.
