We know that Sonu Sood can do anything. But can he revive sinking fortunes of the Congress party?

Mumbai Congress is looking at star power to revive its fortunes in the next year's BMC elections.

A panel that is devising the party's strategy has suggested it should project Sonu Sood as Congress Mayoral candidate, The Indian Express has reported.

Sonu Sood has turned into a real-life hero by first helping migrant workers reach their homes during the first Covid lockdown and then by helping needy during the second Covid wave.

The panel has also reportedly suggested that Congress should project personalities like former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh's son and actor Riteish Deshmukh and model and fitness enthusiast Milind Soman as party's candidates.

The report said that the 25-page strategy document is likely to be presented to AICC secretary in charge of Maharashtra HK Patil soon.

Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap is alos likely to discuss the document with senior party leaders. The document has reportedly suggested that the party should declare a mayoral candidate before the polls and consider those without any political baggage for the post.

It has also called on the party to give a “small number” of tickets to young professionals, social activists and start-up owners as an “image-building” exercise, the report said.
