The war of words between the West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and chief minister Mamata Banerjee is getting bitter each day. Dhankar has now shot an open letter accusing the ruling TMC of converting Bengal into a ‘police state’. In his letter, the governor who often locks horns with Mamata, has written that he is being forced to ‘look into’ Article 154 of the Constitution as his office has been ignored for long. Article 154 of the Constitution mandates that the executive power of the state shall be vested in the Governor and shall be exercised by him either directly or through officers subordinates to him.Claiming that there is ‘electronic surveillance by the TMC’, the Governor said he has been forced to communicate through internet apps. He accused the Bengal police of being servants of extra-constitutional authorities.
