Russian hacker convicted for stealing LinkedIn, Dropbox logins in 2012

Jul 12, 2020 20:28 IST

A San Francisco jury has found Russian national Yevgeniy Nikulin guilty of hacking LinkedIn and Dropbox in 2012, in what's reportedly one of the largest data breaches in US history. The hacker managed to steal 117 million usernames and passwords, which he then tried to sell to other people. Nikulin's is set to be sentenced on September 29, and faces up to 10 years in prison for each count of selling stolen logins and infecting devices with malware, along with an additional five years for each count of hacking and conspiracy.
