Why winter is likely to be warmer this year

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted that the winter period between December and February will be warmer as the normal temperature will hover over one degree Celsius in most parts of the country, excluding the northern-most parts of India. Weatherman says the ‘minimum temperatures would remain markedly above normal over all of the country, and the condition will prevail till December 11.’ The expected surge is due to El Niño, which is a part of a routine climate pattern that occurs when sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean rise to above-normal levels for an extended period of time.
