In its first virtual executive board meeting, the WHO revealed that it is short of $900mn from US to fund its Covid-19 response. Critical of WHO’s handling of the pandemic, and unhappy with its lack of reproval for China, US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut funding for the organisation. WHO Director-General said they have worked ‘day and night’ to coordinate a global response to fight the pandemic. It is tracking more than 700 clinical trials globally and has convened more than 400 researchers to identify research priorities. The WHO requires $1.7 bn US funds for its coronavirus response this year, of which only 800 million dollars have been received or pledged.
