WhatsApp was briefly down in several regions of the world including in India. The matter was reported by users who took to tweeting. Users were not able to send photos, videos, stickers, and GIFs through the Facebook-owned messaging app. However, text messages were going through normally. DownDetector.in, a website which gives real-time updates on outages on all kinds of services, showed an outage for WhatsApp in India, Brazil and the Middle East and some parts of Europe. A Facebook spokesperson clarified that the outage was due to a routine maintenance operation, which ended up triggering a bug responsible for the problem with uploading images and videos. Media sharing features on WhatsApp have now been restored.
