At least three people were killed Saturday afternoon when an Amtrak train that runs between Seattle and Chicago derailed in north-central Montana, an official with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office said.
As per AP reports, the train had 147 passengers and 13 crew members on board. Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams said that five cars of the Empire Builder train derailed at 4 pm local time near the town of Joplin.Amtrak is working with the local authorities to transport injured passengers and safely evacuate all other passengers, he added.
Photos posted on social media showed passengers standing alongside the tracks, some carrying luggage.
