What is Article 35A?

Aug 04, 2019 11:24 IST

Introduced in 1954 by a Presidential Order, Article 35A defines Permanent Residents of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It confers special rights and privileges on the state's residents. No outsider can buy property or get state job in J&K, BJP says 35A discriminates against non-residents and women and it committed to repealing Article 35A. Former CM Mehbooba maintains tinkering with 35A will be like setting powder keg on fire.
