The Election Commission on Thursday issued a notice to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari for alleged hate speech during his campaign in West Bengal's Nandigram last month. He has been asked to respond to the notice within 24 hours.
The poll panel received a complaint from CPI-ML Central Committee member Kavita Krishnan in which it was alleged that on March 29 Adhikari delivered a "hate speech" in Nandigram while addressing a public meeting.
In the speech, Adhikari allegedly called CM Mamata Banerjee 'Begum' and asked people not to vote for her as she will turn Bengal into "mini Pakistan".
Adhikari is pitted against Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram which went to polls on April 1.
