West Bengal announces partial lockdown as Covid spread surges

Amid rising covid cases in West Bengal, the govt on Friday announced a partial lockdown in the state with immediate effect. In a notification issued the govt stated that bazars, marketplaces in Bengal to operate from 7am-10am and 3pm-5pm but home deliveries will continue beyond these hours. 

The govt also banned all social, cultural, academic and entertainment-related gatherings and congregations until further orders. Shopping malls, restaurants, beauty parlours, gyms, spas, and swimming pools will also remain shut. 

With over 1 lakh active cases in the state the govt is bracing for a surge in covid cases that have been steadily rising.
