Week-long lockdown in Maharashtra’s Amaravati from Monday

Feb 21, 2021 20:12 IST

Amaravati in Maharashtra will be under one-week lockdown in the wake of a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, the state government announced on Sunday. The lockdown will remain in force excluding Achalpur city from 8 pm on Monday. Essential services will be allowed to function during the lockdown. Amravati has seen the sharpest spike in Covid-19 cases across Maharashtra this week. The district recorded the second highest number of 806 cases after the capital city of Mumbai - which saw its tally go up by 897 cases on Saturday, the sharpest spike after November 29.
