Clashes erupted at Hyderabad’s Indian Institute of Technology after migrant workers, who had not been paid their wages for the past four months, were asked to resume work. Over 2,000 indignant migrant workers were reportedly told resume work at construction sites on the IIT campus at Kandi in Sangareddy district. But with no assurance of wages, they held a protest which turned violent after the contractor called the police. In ensuing stone pelting clashes, police said two policemen were injured and a vehicle was damaged. The workers relented after the construction company agreed to pay wages for March without any GST deduction. The district administration also agreed to provide vegetables and other essentials till the lockdown is lifted.
