Watch: Odisha villagers build wooden bridge as govt fails to keep promise

Fed up with the administrative delays, the residents of an Odisha village have started building a wooden bridge themselves to avoid being marooned again in monsoon

Kuturakenda village in Odisha's Titlagarh is surrounded by three streams and is cut off every monsoon due to rising water levels. The administration has been promising a bridge to the villagers for long. But it never materialised.
Fed up with the administrative delays, the villagers have started building a wooden bridge themselves to avoid being marooned again.

In a video shared by news agency ANI, the villagers are seen working on the wooden bridge. They say that streams swell up during monsoons and it becomes difficult for villagers to access basic facilities such as schools and healthcare.

They add that the govt promises a bridge every year, but to no avail. Shamed by the villagers' efforts, the administration has lauded the initiative and has again promised a permanent bridge.
