Oura smart rings may help predict onset of Covid-19 in medical workers

Apr 11, 2020 16:07 IST

Oura, the firm behind the smart ring with the same name, has partnered with West Virginia University's Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute in a bit to map the spread of Covid-19 in healthcare workers. The smart wearable ring will be used to track 1,000 medical professionals, charting symptoms of the disease, like fever, cough and fatigue 24 hours before their onset. The idea is to be able to predict the symptoms up to three days in advance, thereby limiting the spread of the virus among healthcare workers, patients, family members and the public. It's worth noting that the University of California San Francisco has been carrying out a similar study using an algorithm along with the Oura ring to monitor the vitals of 2,000 emergency medical workers.
