War veteran made honorary colonel ahead of 100th birthday

Apr 30, 2020 09:03 IST

Captain Tom Moore, the British World War II veteran who completed 100 laps of his garden to raise almost £29 million for the National Health Service in England was made an honorary colonel on the eve of his 100th birthday. The commanding officer of the 1st Battalion of The Yorkshire Regiment visited Moore at his residence in Bedforshire to inform him of his new rank. In addition to presenting him with a Yorkshire Regiment medal, Captain Moore was given a replacement of his Second World War Defence Medal after authorities noticed that he was missing one. His birthday, on the 30th of April, will be celebrated with two special flypasts and over a hundred thousand birthday cards.
