Pakistan's legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis has joined the list of players to oppose the idea of replacing saliva with artificial substances to shine the ball. In an interview to ESPNcricinfo, Waqar said that as a fast bowler he rejects this idea because using saliva and sweat is a natural process. A ball exchanges hands all day, players run in, they sweat and using saliva is natural. It’s a habit and you just can’t control this aspect. He added that it’s practically not possible to prevent a bowler using his sweat or saliva. The ICC had earlier indicated that in order to prevent transmission of the coronavirus, it may help the cricketers by allowing them to use an artificial substance to shine the ball during play.
