Vitamin supplements during chemo could be risky, warns study

Taking vitamin supplements during breast cancer chemotherapy may increase the risk of recurrence by about 40 percent, according to researchers from the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York. Experts claim that antioxidants make chemotherapy less effective as they have the opposite effect on the body than intended by chemotherapy. Researchers analysed the effects of vitamins A, B12, C and E, as well as iron and omega-3 oil with the help of 1,134 patients who filled out surveys and were tracked for around six years. The results dictate relative risk and were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
