Citing recent incidents of confrontation, V-C Bidyut Chakrabarty has written to HRD ministry. The V-C has alleged that the security guards posted at the varsity are loyal to Trinamool and hence disobey the university administration. Currently, no central university has paramilitary forces or even police personnel deployed permanently on campus.

Covid-19 vaccination sessions scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, the 27th and 28th of February, won't be held anywhere in the country as the Co-Win app is getting an upgrade. The app is being upgraded in order to link the first phase of vaccination into the second phase starting from March 1. As of now, there is no option for self-registration on the app, as inoculation of healthcare staff and other frontline workers is being done on the basis of the database procured from concerned govt departments. The government also has the data of senior citizens based on electoral rolls. But for people with co-morbidities, who are also included in this phase starting from Monday, the option of self-registration had to be included. The self-registration option will be available from March 1 to enable senior citizens and people above 45 years of age with co-morbidities to register themselves on the app.

After contracting for two quarters in a row, the Indian economy grew by 0.4% in the October-December quarter amid the coronavirus pandemic, data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Friday showed.
The GDP had expanded by 3.3% in the corresponding period of 2019-20, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
In its second advance estimates of national accounts, the NSO has projected an 8% contraction in 2020-21. In its first advance estimates released in January, it had projected a contraction of 7.7% for the current fiscal as against a growth of 4% cent in 2019-20.
The economy had shrunk by an unprecedented 24.4% in the first quarter this fiscal following the coronavirus pandemic and resultant lockdowns. In the second quarter, the GDP declined 7.3% due to a perk up in economic activities.

Gold loans against up to six sovereigns given by cooperative banks to farmers and the poor will be waived, the Tamil Nadu government announced.
Justifying the move, Palaniswami said the economy was yet to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and this would help the poor redeem the gold they had pledged during the lockdown.
The gold loan schemes with low-interest rates were offered by the Tamil Nadu State Apex Co-operative bank as part of Covid relief measures. The interest rate has been fixed at 6% a year. In this, people could get ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 and the loan has to be returned in three months.

In a series of tweets, Mamata said, wages have been increased to ₹202 per day from ₹144 earlier for unskilled labourers, while the hike for semi-skilled labourers has been revised to ₹303 from ₹172 earlier. A new category has been introduced for skilled labour, whose wage has been fixed at ₹404 per day.
Mamata Banerjee said a total of 56,500 workers in Bengal will benefit from the move. She added that these wages are in parity with rural workers&rsquo; enhanced pay (MNREGA unskilled &amp; semi-skilled). Budget provision for this step has been made available for both FY21 &amp; FY22.

Quoting Chowdhury, the report said, he has informed about the poor leadership at the district level to Mamata Banerjee as well. Chowdhury reportedly said he is a &ldquo;bhumiputra&rdquo; of Burdwan and cannot be a mute spectator if the district lags behind on the path of development due to poor leadership.
