Dozens of skaters took to the frozen surface of Amsterdam's historic Prinsengracht canal as the deep freeze gripping Europe allowed skating on a small section of the canal for the first time since 2018.
But the fun ended quickly for one semi-naked skater when he glided over a region where the ice was too thin. Wearing just a pair of shorts, the skater fell into the frigid water, a video with over 6.4 million views shows.
Following several similar incidents, authorities have warned against mass skating to avoid filling up emergency rooms when the Covid-19 virus is already keeping hospitals busy.
