Virat's slump allows Smith to reclaim World no. 1 ranking

Feb 26, 2020 15:47 IST

Indian skipper Virat Kohli managed to score just 21 runs for his side in the 1st Test against New Zealand, which India lost by 10 wickets. Courtesy Kohli's dip in performance, Australia's Steve Smith reclaimed the World number 1 Test batsman spot in the latest ICC rankings. The 30-year-old first reached the World number 1 ranking in June 2015 and since then, this is the 8th time Smith has returned to the top of the table. Before Kohli and Smith, New Zealand's captain Kane Williamson was number 1 for eight days in December 2015.
