Virat Kohli to step down as T20 captain after the World T20

Virat Kohli has decided to step down as the T20 skipper after the World T20 in UAE but will continue to lead Team India in Tests and ODIs

Virat Kohli shook the cricketing world on Thursday as he suddenly announced to step down as India's T20 captain after the upcoming World T20 in UAE.

Kohli took to Twitter to say that he will continue to lead Team India in ODIs and Tests but need to manage his workload in order to be fully ready to lead the national side in ODIs and Tests. Kohli added that he arrived to the conclusion after a lot of contemplation and discussions with the leadership group which includes head coach Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma.

Kohli became the Test skipper in 2014 while he took over captaincy duties in the limited overs format when Dhoni stepped down in 2017. Virat is India's most successful Test skipper and has also done well in the limited overs formats. Team India has won 65 of the 95 ODIs under him while 27 of the 45 T20I under Virat's leadership. However, an ICC trophy at the senior level still eludes the 32-year-old.
