Leaders of the "Quad" bloc will hold their first-ever meeting this year, as the four biggest democracies of the world, the United States, Japan, India and Australia team up to counter China's rising influence.
A report by Bloomberg quoted Austalian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, confirming the development to reporters in Sydney. Without giving details on the timing of the talks, which are expected to be held virtually this year, Morrison said, the meeting will be between four leaders, four countries, all working together constructively for the peace, prosperity and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
Morrison went on to say that he has discussed arrangements with U.S President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in recent weeks, adding that talks could be followed by face-to-face meetings.
