US CDC draws flak for saying asymptomatic persons don't need testing

In a move baffling some public health experts, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has 'quietly' modified its Covid-19 testing guidelines to state that some people without symptoms need not get tested even if exposed to the virus. Initially the health body had said that even asymptomatic persons recently exposed to the virus should get tested. The modifications raised crucial questions, that pointed to the importance of identifying infection within a short time before the onset of symptoms, when a person appears to be most contagious. The new guidelines may undermine the importance of contact tracing and pre-symptomatic transmission, experts said.
